Bedouin Women Weavers and
Indian Artisans

  • Women Empowerment in the Negev Desert

When you buy a Bedouin carpet, you make a difference in the life of a Bedouin woman. Bedouin women are living in tribal societies where polygamy, illiteracy and poverty are prevalent. Weaving at home – or working in the weaving center, provides fair wages, social security and pension for the women. And enable them to use their traditional skills of weaving in a modern and commercial context.

Through weaving, the women are handling the challenges inhered in the transition from a nomadic life to modern life. And changing norms – one step at the time.

  • Traditional Artisans from Uttar Pradesh

We collaborate with a small family business in northern India. Our manufacturer is 3rd generation and has a widespread network of weaving communities. He works directly with the artisans in the villages. And is committed to paying the weavers a fair wage.

This means no middlemen (or factories) because the weavers work for themselves from their homes. They are also farmers and weave to supplement their income from agriculture.
